The Telemark Canal
The Telemark Canal was built in the period 1854–1861 and connects Skien to Dalen in southern Norway by linking up several long lakes using a series of 18 locks. The length of the canal is 105 kilometers and the total difference in altitude is 72 meters. Nostalgic and elegant riverboats allow visitors to experience rich cultural history, bustling crowds and a constantly changing landscape. The canal still remains almost as it was over one hundred years ago.
