# Bringing your dog to Denmark

## Bringing your dog to Denmark

Travelling from Norway to Denmark with your dog is straightforward as long as you have the right documentation in order. Denmark follows the EU rules for travelling with pets – with a little preparation you and your dog are ready for a safe and uncomplicated journey.

## What you need before departure

When travelling to Denmark with your dog from Norway, you must be able to document the following at the border:

- **Microchip** – your dog must be ID-tagged. The chip must meet ISO standard 11784/11785
- **EU pet passport** – obtained from a vet and must be signed by you as the owner
- **Valid rabies vaccination** – must have been given at least 21 days before departure if your dog is being vaccinated for the first time. If the previous vaccination is still valid, a booster vaccination takes effect immediately
- **Dog liability insurance** – Denmark requires you to have insurance covering damage your dog may cause to people or property
- **You must travel together with your dog** – in certain cases you can give written permission for another person to travel with your dog

Remember to check that the vaccination interval has not been exceeded – this is verified in the pet passport.

## Dog breeds that are banned in Denmark

Some dog breeds are banned by law in Denmark, and the ban also applies to visiting dogs from abroad. Check the [Fødevarestyrelsen website](https://en.foedevarestyrelsen.dk/animals/animal-welfare/danish-legislation-on-dogs) for an up-to-date list of banned breeds before you travel.
