Norway Dreaming of a trip to Norway?

Dreaming of a trip to Norway?

Whether you love city breaks, mountain hikes, or relaxing by the water, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect destination in beautiful Norway. With plenty of experiences and activities for all ages, a trip to Norway is ideal for family holidays, romantic getaways, or road trips with friends.

Norway is the perfect destination for almost any type of holiday. Here, you can experience vibrant city life, embark on long mountain hikes, enjoy breathtaking natural scenery, soak up the sun, and swim in crystal-clear waters. Whether you're travelling with family, your partner, or friends, you're sure to find something for everyone in Norway. It's something to look forward to!

No matter whether you disembark in Kristiansand, Bergen, or Stavanger, you’re never far from extraordinary natural wonders. Norway offers an abundance of easily accessible natural gems for both young and old to explore.

Natural wonders and history in Telemark

In the heart of Telemark, you'll find Vrådal, a perfect holiday destination for world-class nature experiences. Here, you can enjoy a wide range of activities on land, water, and even in the air at the top of the many mountains in the area. Vrådal is less than a three-hour drive from Kristiansand and is a small holiday paradise year-round.

If you travel a bit further up in Telemark to Gaustablikk, you’ll experience spectacular nature and explore the dramatic history of World War II. The small town of Rjukan was the centre of one of Norway's most dramatic events during World War II: the heavy water sabotage. Today, you can hike the "Saboteur's Trail" and follow in the footsteps of the saboteurs who blew up the heavy water plant at Vemork, hearing tales of the dramatic history of the heroes of Vemork. Once you’ve reached Gaustablikk, a trip to the "roof of Telemark," Gaustatoppen, is an absolute must. The hike to the top is about five kilometres, where you can enjoy delicious Norwegian waffles and a view over one-sixth of Norway. And if you don’t feel like walking, the Gaustabanen, which runs inside the mountain, can take you almost all the way to the top.

In Telemark, you’ll also find stunning highland nature in Rauland, located right next to the Hardangervidda National Park. This is Norway's largest nature reserve, offering a wide variety of beautiful hikes for the whole family. There are fantastic opportunities to experience Norway’s beautiful nature and encounter wildlife. If you want to be sure of seeing animals in the wild, you can go on a moose safari, where you're almost guaranteed to get up close to the king of the forest.

Coastal landscapes and fishing in Sørlandet

If you sail from Hirtshals to Kristiansand, there’s much more in store than just a visit to Captain Sabertooth in Dyreparken. The mild Sørlandet region boasts countless beautiful natural wonders, and the coast is stunning no matter the season. Tregde is one of our favourites at the southern tip of Norway. Here, you can experience the coastal landscape up close, visit old lighthouses and idyllic coastal towns, explore nature on foot or by bike, swim, and of course, fish. The coastline around Tregde offers excellent fishing spots, and it’s also recommended to take a trip out to the open sea. There are great opportunities for salmon fishing in the Mandalselva River, just a few kilometres outside Tregde. Here, the whole family can truly enjoy a fantastic holiday.

Majestic experiences in Western Norway

Whether you choose to disembark in Bergen or Stavanger, there are excellent opportunities to experience the stunning beauty of Norway's wild and beautiful nature.

Here, a wealth of unique outdoor experiences awaits in an idyllic mountain landscape. Whether you’re young or old, an action lover or a fan of relaxing days, this area has something for you: hiking, cycling, climbing, mountain biking, and dog sledding are just a few of the activities this region offers.

If you’ve made it to Stavanger, a trip to the beautiful Lysefjord is almost a must. You can sail out and enjoy the stunning scenery from the water or hike in the mountains around the fjord and take in the view over the 42-kilometre-long Lysefjord. Preikestolen and Kjeragbolten are both enormously popular tourist destinations, and standing at the top of these is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

A little northeast of Bergen lies the natural gem of Flåm. It’s a small village on the shores of the Aurlandsfjord, where you can explore the unique nature of the mountains and along the deep, blue fjords. Here, you can also visit an authentic Viking village and take a ride on the spectacular Flåm Railway.

Myrkdalen is another holiday gem located in the heart of Fjord Norway. The valley is a couple of hours’ drive from Bergen, and whether you’re looking for world-class nature experiences or fun and active family experiences, Myrkdalen offers a wide range of activities for holidaymakers of all ages.

The Hardangerfjord is one of the world’s longest fjords and also offers some of Norway’s most impressive landscapes. Less than an hour and a half from Bergen lies the small village of Øystese, where you can stay at the venerable Hardangerfjord Hotel. The landscape around the fjord can be explored in many ways, both from the water and with your feet firmly planted on land. Around the fjord, you’ll find many idyllic centres, large fruit farms, and mountain peaks with fantastic views, so here you can pick and choose among the experiences.

The adventure capital of Eastern Norway

Northwest of Oslo lies Norefjell, a true adventure capital. Here, you can get close to the large animals of the Norwegian wilderness, such as bears and moose, visit Norway’s only fairy-tale museum, delve deep into the cobalt mines, and much, much more. In Norefjell, you can enjoy first-class nature experiences, travel back in time at one of the many museums, or visit a real bear park. Norefjell is suitable for many types of holidays, whether for active travellers or those who prefer a more relaxed pace, large and small families, couples, or groups of friends. The only limit to what you can experience on a holiday in Norefjell is your imagination.

The small country with the big cities

Norway isn’t particularly large. In terms of land area, it is, of course, but the population density is low, and on its vast expanse live fewer than 5.5 million people. Nevertheless, Norway boasts some fantastic cities, where there is much to see and do.

In Western Norway lies Bergen, the beautiful city where culture, nature, and history blend together. It’s Norway's second-largest city and offers a unique combination of stunning fjord and mountain landscapes, a rich cultural life, and fascinating historical experiences. Here, you can stroll, grab a bite to eat, or shop along the famous Bryggen, take the Fløibanen funicular to the city mountain Fløyen, or the spectacular cable car up to Ulriken, visit all the animals at the fantastic Aquarium, explore a wide range of museums, and much, much more. Everything is set for a perfect holiday for both young and old.

A bit further south, but still in Western Norway, Stavanger awaits you. Here, you’ll find plenty of exciting experiences for both children and adults. A historic district with old buildings, an oil museum, the Children's Museum, the Kongeparken amusement park, gastronomy and drinks in Fargegaten, and fantastic nature experiences around the Lysefjord are just some of the things this lively city has to offer.

The coastal gem Kristiansand is the capital of Sørlandet. Thanks to all the fantastic things you can experience in Dyreparken, Kristiansand is often known as the Children’s City. But there are experiences for all ages here, and there is definitely something for everyone. Kristiansand has many exciting museums where you can feel the breath of history and relive Norwegian history, a vibrant cultural life, and many beautiful nature experiences for both young and old. It’s definitely worth a visit, whether you’re on holiday with your family, partner, or friends.

Topping it all off is Oslo, Norway’s charming capital. Here, you’ll find a vibrant, urban metropolis with a strong connection to its history. And there are almost no limits to what you can experience if you spend your holiday in Oslo: the stunning Opera House in the city centre, the Vigeland Sculpture Park, the National Gallery, the famous Holmenkollen ski jump, and the trendy Grünerløkka district, where you can shop for all tastes, as well as the Tusenfryd amusement park. This is just a small taste of all the things the capital has to offer. Oslo is a must-see!
