World-class nature experiences
Fjords and mountains
Norway is world-famous for its spectacular fjords, which are among the longest, deepest - and most beautiful in the world! The Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are among the highlights, but the Lysefjord, Sognefjord and the mighty Hardangerfjord are also worth a visit.

Mountain hiking is a popular activity in Norway, but the country also has a number of mountain peaks you can visit without lacing up your hiking boots. At Gaustatoppen in Telemark, you can ride all the way to the top on a railway inside the mountain, and near Bergen you can visit the peaks Fløien and Ulriken by cable car and gondola.
If you're into hiking, famous destinations such as Preikestolen, Kjeragbolten, Trolltunga and the Besseggen route are among the clear highlights.

National parks and glaciers
Norway has a large number of national parks where you can experience both untouched nature and rich wildlife. The largest, and perhaps most famous, is the huge Hardangervidda National Park, which is Northern Europe's largest high mountain area plateau, but also Jotunheimen National Park with its tall mountains and ice blue lakes and Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park with its charming musk oxen are worth a visit.
Close to Bergen, you can enjoy a unique nature experience in Jostedalsbreen National Park, Europe's largest mainland glacier. Here you can go glacier hiking on the blue-white glacier ice.

Stave churches
The Norwegian stave churches are unique wooden buildings from the Middle Ages. The impressive buildings are like something out of a fairy tale. Among the most famous are Urne’s Stave Church (the oldest and most famous and a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Røldal Stave Church and Heddal Stave Church.
Nidarosdomen
The Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim is Norway's national shrine. Built between 1070 and 1300, it's a Gothic masterpiece that to this day plays a central role in Norwegian culture - it's where the country's king or queen is crowned.

Bryggen in Bergen
Bergen's historic Bryggen district is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and known for its colorful wooden houses dating back to the Hanseatic period. Bryggen is a living museum with narrow streets and old wooden buildings where you can experience the city's medieval history.
The MUNCH Museum in Oslo
Opened in 2021, the new MUNCH Museum in Oslo features 13 floors of the world's largest collection of Munch works - including, of course, 'The Scream'. In addition, the building itself is built with minimal climate emissions in mind - and you'll get a fantastic view of Oslo from the 13th floor.

The Atlantic Road
Atlanterhavsveien is a spectacular coastal road connecting islands and islets between Kristiansund and Molde on the west coast of Norway. Known for its dramatic bridges and breathtaking sea views, the route is one of Norway's most famous - and most beautiful - stretches of road.
Northern lights
Seeing the northern lights, or aurora borealis, is a magical experience that draws travelers from all over the world to Norway. Tromsø is one of the best places to observe this natural phenomenon, especially during the winter months from September to March, but you may also be lucky enough to experience the beautiful sight further south - especially if you are up in the mountains in places without light pollution.
