Dog Sledding

Drive your own dog sled team across a snow-covered mountain.

Have you always dreamed of dog sledding? Or perhaps you just love dogs? Treat yourself and your family to a magical dog sledding adventure while you’re in Rauland.

You’ll learn to handle your own dog team and experience the energy and joy of these hardworking dogs up close. The experience of gliding through the untouched wilderness, feeling the wind rush past, and hearing the dogs’ paws on the snow is one that the whole family will cherish for a lifetime!

In Rauland, you can take a dog sledding tour in two locations:

Haukeli Husky offers a wilderness adventure close to the edge of Hardangervidda, where you can enjoy pure nature and tranquility.

Telemark Husky Tour offers both short and long tours:

  • A 5 km tour lasting about 40 minutes, where you’ll first meet the dogs and get instructions on how to use the sled, then lead your own team on the trail.
  • A half-day tour of up to 20 km, where you’ll experience the thrill of a longer journey up into the mountains, with a stop at a local lavvu (tent) for a warm drink.
  • A full-day tour where you’ll learn how to harness the dogs and drive the sled yourself (two adults per sled, alternating roles). The guide will lead the way on this impressive journey through both mountain and forest landscapes.
