Your holiday begins on board one of Fjord Line's comfortable ferries, bound for Bergen. Your cabin is your base at sea – settle in, enjoy a good dinner in the Commander Buffet, then head to the Seaview Bar for a drink as the ship sets course for Norway.
The following day, around midday, the ship arrives in Bergen, and the journey continues by car along the Hardangerfjord. Along the way, you'll pass Steinsdalsfossen – park the car and walk the path behind the waterfall before continuing on. The drive takes around 1.5 hours to Norheimsund and around 2.5 hours to Ulvik, and offers fjord views, fruit orchards and mountainsides reflected in the blue-green water.
You can choose between Thon Hotel Sandven in Norheimsund and Brakanes Hotel in Ulvik. Both hotels sit right on the Hardangerfjord and boast fantastic views. Thon Hotel Sandven is a listed hotel dating from 1857, while Brakanes Hotel is part of Historic Hotels of Norway. Drop off your luggage, take in the view from the hotel, and spend the afternoon strolling along the fjord, enjoying a coffee at a local café, or simply relaxing amid the beautiful scenery. In the evening, round off the day with a good dinner at the hotel.
