MS Stavangerfjord was launched in 2013 and, together with her sister ship MS Bergensfjord, has made international shipping history as the world’s first large cruise ferries powered by green gas. Both vessels were built by Bergen Group Fosen. In 2023, the ships were converted to dual-fuel engines. With dual-fuel engines, we have the freedom to choose between LNG (natural gas) and MGO (diesel), but we always prioritise sailing on LNG whenever conditions allow. Regardless of whether we sail on LNG or MGO, our dual-fuel engines always use around 3% MGO as so-called pilot fuel, ensuring that the LNG ignites correctly in the engines.
