Why choose this route?

1) Direct access to fjords, mountains, and west coast experiences

Stavanger and Bergen are not just ports — they’re two of the best gateways to the fjords and the mountains of Western Norway. When you sail directly to the west coast, you skip long drives across the country and can spend more of your trip on the experiences you actually came for.

2) A journey that feels like part of the holiday

If you travel all the way to or from Bergen, you’ll also enjoy a spectacular stretch between Stavanger and Bergen, where the ship sails through scenic coastal landscapes and sheltered waterways along the west coast.

Ports and how to get there

Hirtshals — Hirtshals Havn Hirtshals is North Jutland's largest ferry port and is well connected to the European motorway network.

Stavanger — Risavika In Stavanger, the ferry docks at Risavika, south-west of the city centre. Risavika is easily reached by car via the E39. Regular public buses run between Risavika and Stavanger city centre, making it easy to get to and from the port without a car.

Bergen — Jekteviksterminalen Fjord Line's terminal in Bergen, Jekteviksterminalen, is centrally located within walking distance of most of the city's main attractions. The terminal is accessible by car, bus or on foot. For parking, we recommend the «Klostergarasjen» and «City Park» car parks in the city centre.

What's on board

Food and drink On board you'll find an à la carte brasserie, buffet restaurant, cafeteria and café. We recommend pre-booking dinner to secure a table in the restaurant. A breakfast buffet is served in the morning before arrival in Hirtshals.

Cabins and Airseat On this route, booking a cabin or an Airseat (reclining seat) for overnight accommodation is mandatory — this is an overnight crossing. Choose from inside cabins, sea-view cabins or premium suites. The Airseat is a more affordable alternative with comfortable reclining seats in a dedicated area. All cabins have a private bathroom.

Tax-free shopping MS Stavangerfjord and MS Bergensfjord features tax-free shopping with a wide selection of perfume, alcohol, tobacco, confectionery and souvenirs.

Entertainment and activities There is onboard entertainment for the whole family. Check what's available on your sailing when you book.

Pioneers in green ferry travel

MS Stavangerfjord (2013) and MS Bergensfjord (2014) were the world's first cruise ferries to sail exclusively on LNG — liquefied natural gas. LNG propulsion eliminates sulphur oxide emissions and substantially reduces nitrogen oxides and particulate matter compared to conventional heavy fuel oil.

In 2023, both ships were converted to dual-fuel engines, enabling the choice between LNG and MGO depending on availability and energy prices. Fjord Line always prioritises LNG operation when conditions allow.

Start planning: choose the port that fits your trip

  • Stavanger: perfect if you’re heading for Lysefjord, Preikestolen, or the southwest coast.
  • Bergen: an ideal starting point for fjord adventures and dramatic mountain scenery in Western Norway.
