Spectacular mountains in every direction, the rushing river Otra winding through the village, and the idyllic mountain lake Hartevatn. This is the recipe for a holiday paradise for nature lovers in the heart of Norway.
Mountain experiences of the highest order
At around 780 metres above sea level and set deep in the Norwegian mountains, Hovden offers a wealth of spectacular hikes and cycle routes for all abilities. There are short, family-friendly walks of 5 km and guided summit hikes for the more experienced. Prefer to rest your legs? Take the chairlift to the top of Nos-fjeldet, which at 1,183 metres offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains – on a clear day you can see all the way to Hardangervidda.
Most of the area around Hovden is protected, so you can look forward to experiencing truly wild and unspoilt nature. And if you're lucky, you might spot wild reindeer – the area between Setesdal and Ryfylke is the second largest wild reindeer habitat in Norway!
A paradise for water lovers
Whether you're after indoor or outdoor water experiences, Hovden has plenty to offer. Hovden Fjellbad has everything from a training pool and a family pool at a comfortable 30 degrees to water slides, an obstacle course and a wellness area with hot tub, sauna and cold plunge pool. And for something truly unique, the outdoor infinity pool – the aqueduct pool – is a must: swim with a stunning view of the river Otra and the surrounding mountains.
The river Otra and lake Hartevatn invite you to their idyllic banks and warm, inviting water – perfect for a swim on a warm summer's day.

After a day of adventures, find a cosy spot to sit back and enjoy an ice cream by the water's edge, surrounded by mountains in some of Norway's most beautiful scenery.
