How to travel to Norway with a dog

When planning to bring your dog to Norway, there are some rules you need to be aware of. Norway's entry requirements are slightly stricter than EU regulations – so it's worth familiarising yourself with the requirements well in advance.

Before you travel, make sure you have:

  • Microchip – your dog must be ID-tagged with a microchip
  • EU pet passport – issued and signed by an authorised vet
  • Valid rabies vaccination – your dog must be vaccinated against rabies
  • Worming treatment against Echinococcus multilocularis – must be administered by an authorised vet in the country you're travelling from

The worming treatment is the most important thing to remember – and something many travellers are not aware of. The treatment must be given no earlier than 120 hours and no later than 24 hours before entry into Norway, and confirmed in the pet passport.
