Off-Slope Adventures in Vrådal

Even the most passionate skier needs a break to rest tired legs. In our travel article, we share three ideas for enchanting snow experiences in the winter paradise of Vrådal.

Sølvsmedtunet and Nisseloftet

Right next to the Quality Straand Hotel Vrådal awaits a unique experience: the jewelry workshop Sølvsmedtunet, where you can watch silversmith Astrid Søftestad at work, following the old craft traditions of Telemark. Get up close to fascinating processes such as hammering, heating, and soldering silver, and see how the material transforms into a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry art.

Once you’ve admired the beautiful creations (and perhaps picked up a keepsake from the souvenir shop, which offers a charming selection of gifts), you can visit the Nisseloftet, or “Elf Loft.” Here, it’s Christmas all year round, and children (and the young at heart) can send a Christmas card stamped by Santa himself in Nissedal. The cards can be written any time of year but are held until December to ensure they arrive in time for the holiday season.

More information is available on the Sølvsmedtunet website.

Fun and Winter Moments in the Snow

Whether you’re on a family getaway or simply want to enjoy the winter landscape, Vrådal offers plenty of ways to make the most of the snow. In the free children’s area next to the chairlift, both kids and adults can have fun on gentle slopes and try out the carpet lifts – perfect for sledding, snow games, and first ski attempts. When the weather is calm, take a leisurely walk through the snowy scenery around Lake Nisser, Telemark’s largest lake, and soak up the crisp mountain air and peaceful winter atmosphere.

At Vrådal Hyttegrend, you’ll also find a 60-meter illuminated toboggan run, perfect for children and the young at heart to burn off energy and enjoy hours of fun in the snow.

Or indulge in the hotel restaurant’s five-course menu, featuring local specialties such as venison carpaccio, chanterelle risotto, and cloudberry sorbet.

For an unforgettable experience, start with an aperitif accompanied by storytelling, where along with the delicious dishes, you’ll gain deeper insight into the history of the hotel and the surrounding region.
