Vrådal – Perfect for a short ski getaway

Just a few hours from Denmark lies one of the Norwegians’ favorite destinations: Vrådal. In this cozy, easy-to-navigate ski area, both children and adults can enjoy a safe start on the slopes – and it’s close enough that you can easily head off on a short ski break and still have plenty of time in the snow.

Day 1: A Great Start to the Holiday

The ferry departs from Hirtshals at 9:00 AM. During the journey to Kristiansand, you can of course enjoy all the ferry’s amenities – try the varied breakfast buffet at the Commander Buffet, or grab a delicious Starbucks coffee and relax on deck or by a window while you’re safely transported toward the many adventures that await.

Arriving in Kristiansand at 12:55 PM, you’ll have plenty of daylight hours to drive to Vrådal and settle into your accommodation – perhaps a traditional cabin, a cozy holiday apartment, or, for a touch of extra luxury, the historic Straand Hotel Vrådal. If you’re quick, you might even squeeze in a few runs on the slopes before darkness falls – or perhaps a sled ride on the children’s hill, Lille-Petter.

Spend the evening getting a head start on the holiday’s après-ski, or take a stroll through snow-covered Vrådal and enjoy the town’s lights sparkling on the snow.

Day 2: Full Speed on the Slopes!

Day 2 is all about skiing. Vrådal offers slopes for every skill level, so whether you’re traveling with family or friends, there’s something for everyone – including cross-country enthusiasts. If the kids are with you, you can safely let them loose in the children’s area, where Vrådal’s experienced guides ensure a fun and secure start on the skis, while you carve your way down the slopes.

Stop for lunch in your cabin or at one of the slope-side restaurants, and enjoy an afternoon break with a steaming cup of hot chocolate before heading back out until dusk. Dinner can be enjoyed in the cabin, or make a stop at Straand Hotel Vrådal’s restaurant for a fine meal featuring local specialties – for example, elk stew made from an elk hunted nearby, fish & chips with fish from Lake Nisser, or a rich Karl Johan risotto.

Après-ski fun can continue at the Mountain Loghome Bar before you turn in for the night and rest up for the final day of skiing.

Day 3: More Skiing – and a Cozy Journey Home

Rise early and be ready on the slopes at sunrise – there’s plenty of time for more wonderful skiing before checking out and heading back to Kristiansand. The ferry doesn’t depart until 3:00 PM, giving you the chance for a few last runs before the journey home.

On the way back, you can once again relax and enjoy all the ferry’s amenities before arriving in Hirtshals at 6:55 PM and completing the final leg of the journey home in Denmark – well filled with memories after an intense and cozy mini ski holiday, packed with snowy adventures.
