Starting January 2024, there’s a new set of sustainability regulations rolling out in the maritime world. Fjord Line will participate in the European Union’s Emissions Trading System (ETS), which is part of a collective effort to cut down on greenhouse gases. The ETS Surcharge is a new sustainability regulation affecting maritime transport and will include CO2 emissions from all large ships docking at EU ports. Learn more about ETS surcharge here.
This means that a small ETS Surcharge will be added on all trips from January 2024, and is applicable to both passengers and freight clients. The ETS Surcharge will be included in the total price and specified, in your bookings with Fjord Line, as EU Environmental surcharge.

Before you take your dog on holiday, you must familiarise yourself with the rules that apply in the country you are going to and when you are going back home. This also applies to trips to Denmark. In order to be able to bring the dog to Denmark, the following requirements must be met:
In Denmark, you must also have dog liability insurance, which covers cases where the dog causes damage to people or things. There are also certain dog breeds that are banned in Denmark. You can obtain more information about this from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.
If you want to bring a dog to Norway from a country within the EU/EEA, these requirements must be met:
The animal and accompanying documents must be checked by the Norwegian Customs at the border crossing. You must therefore drive into the red channel on arrival.
It is very important that you follow the rules. Failure to do so could have serious consequences.
If you have not followed these rules, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority may decide that your pets must be:
As a pet owner, you are financially liable for all rule violations.
Costs:
Failure to have your dog dewormed will cost a minimum of NOK 7,000, and the dog will be taken into custody and quarantined for 24 hours.
More information can be found on the Norwegian Food Safety Authority’s website.
If you are travelling between Bergen/Stavanger–Hirtshals and Hirtshals–Stavanger/Bergen (MS Bergensfjord and MS Stavangerfjord), we have a dog run outside on the aft deck on deck 10. There is also access to water there. Use of a dog bag is required.
On Fjord FSTR, which sails between Kristiansand–Hirtshals/Hirtshals–Kristiansand, it is possible to bring the dog out on the aft deck and in the lounge by the aft deck.
Passengers must bring their own water and food bowl for their dog. This applies both to dogs staying in cars and in dog cages on deck on board MS Stavangerfjord/MS Bergensfjord.
If you travel between Bergen/Stavanger–Hirtshals and Hirtshals–Stavanger/Bergen (MS Bergensfjord and MS Stavangerfjord), the ships are equipped with dog cages on deck. Dog cages must be ordered in advance. You must complete this step under ‘Passengers’ when booking the tickets online.
Cages come in three sizes: medium cage 70x100x75 cm, large cage 100x100x75 cm and extra large cage 120x100x160 cm. The dog owner gets a key to the kennel and does not have to make an appointment with the staff to walk the dog.
Note that the owner is fully responsible for the dog on board. Our crew does not supervise the kennels or dog-walking areas.
There are no dog cages on the Fjord FSTR that sails between Kristiansand–Hirtshals/Hirtshals–Kristiansand. Here, dogs must be booked in as pets in a car. You can bring your dog to the afterdeck and the lounge by the afterdeck.
Dogs are not allowed in the common areas inside the ships. Guide/assistance dogs and service dogs are exempted.
On journeys between Bergen/Stavanger–Hirtshals and Hirtshals–Stavanger/Bergen (with MS Bergensfjord and MS Stavangerfjord) we have separate cabins where dogs are allowed. These cabins are popular and we recommend booking well in advance of departure. Please note! These cabins must be booked by telephone.
On journeys between Bergen/Stavanger–Hirtshals and Hirtshals–Stavanger/Bergen, you can visit your dog on the car deck and take it for a walk at the following times:

Kristiansand–Hirtshals: 16:30*
Hirtshals–Stavanger: 06:30–07:00**
Stavanger–Bergen: 09:45–10:15* (from 20 June to 10 August), 10:00–10:30 (rest of the year) and 12:30**
Bergen–Stavanger: 16:00*
Every evening: 23:30*
*Guests must be accompanied by a crew member.
**Car deck opens before the ship docks.
It is possible to have your dog in the car during the crossing on the route Kristiansand<->Hirtshals with our catamaran Fjord FSTR. The car deck is locked during the entire crossing, and it is therefore not possible to visit your dog in the car on your own. The exception is if staff have the capacity to accompany passengers down to their car.
Please note! We do not recommend leaving your dog in the car during the summer as the car deck can become very warm.
Transport of horses and horse-drawn vehicles must be booked by phone. Persons transporting horses should contact Fjord Line Freight to present papers on departure and arrival and be registered on the Cargo Manifest. A fee is payable. Fjord Line Freight must be contacted in advance if you require help to complete customs forms.
Only dogs can be booked into onboard kennels – no other pets are allowed in these facilities.
It is, however, possible to travel with common pets such as cats, rabbits, etc. These pets must be booked as "pets in a vehicle" and must remain in the vehicle during the crossing.
Common pets (not reptiles) can be transported in enclosed pet carriers (applies to domestic routes and Hirtshals–Kristiansand), provided that you, as a guest, stay on the outdoor deck with the pet for the entire crossing. The pet must not be removed from the carrier at any time.
Pets are not permitted in the indoor common areas of the ships.
Foot passengers cannot bring any pets other than dogs booked into onboard kennels.

The current answer is that all vehicles, except for motorcycles, are required to pay tolls in Norway.
Read more here: AutoPASS: Easier travel on toll roads in Norway.
There are separate areas on deck for parking motorcycles. The driver must secure their motorcycle with two straps that can be found in the designated parking area for motorcycles.
Parking a motorcycle on board Fjord FSTR: How to park your motorcycle.
Yes, you can do this through My Page.
We recommend measuring your vehicle yourself. Start measuring from the front of the vehicle and go all the way to the rear of the trailer or caravan. If, for example, you have bicycles attached to the back, these must be included in your measurement. We require the total length. The same applies to the height. If you have a roof box, trailer, or any similar attachment on your vehicle, it must be included in the measurement. We are looking for the highest point on the vehicle/trailer.
Providing incorrect length or height may result in additional costs for you as a traveller and, in the worst case, you may not be able to join the journey.
Fjord Line’s age limits depend on your route and the type of trip you want. Age limits apply to unaccompanied minors. See details about age limits here.

Detailed information regarding the transport of luggage, including dangerous goods, can be found in section 11 of our travel conditions.
All dangerous goods carried in private vehicles must be reported to our customer service well in advance of departure and no later than 72 hours prior to check-in. Weapons are not permitted to be carried without prior clearance and written consent from the ship's captain.
All dangerous goods transported in commercial vehicles/for commercial purposes or in quantities that exceed those permitted to be carried in private vehicles must be reported and booked via Fjord Line Freight.
Detailed information regarding the booking and transport of dangerous goods can be found in sections 2.1.3 & 11.1 of our travel conditions.

Motorhomes or other private vehicles with a gas system must carry a valid gas certificate confirming that periodic checks have been carried out and that the system maintains the necessary level of safety.
In the interests of safety, passengers with special requirements or who have to travel with a companion should inform Fjord Line of this on booking. Other categories of cabins are not wheelchair accessible.
Fjord Line attaches great importance to the safety of our passengers, and that they should feel safe on board. It is therefore important that our staff are made aware of the type and degree of each disability, so that we can best accommodate our passengers. This is why it is not possible to book these special cabins online.
