Blåfarveværket and the Cobalt Mines

Blåfarveværket , around 1 hours from Norefjell, is a completely unique museum. The converted buildings of the area's mining industry (which supplied the beautiful blue cobalt to customers all over the world) now house both fascinating art and cultural exhibitions and fascinating exhibitions about the mining industry.
Blåfarveværket is located in beautiful natural surroundings, and the area's exciting cultural and historical experiences beckon both above and below ground. Here you can explore the "cultural trails" through the mining area, but also take a guided tour down into the historic mines themselves, where you can experience first–hand what life as a miner was like. The tour takes an hour and a half, and if you dare, you can step out onto an underground glass floor or the newly opened 32–metre suspension bridge.
One of the museum's permanent art exhibitions is the collection of works by the Norwegian fairytale artist Theodor Kittelsen, who created all kinds of mythical creatures in drawings, woodcuts, paintings and more. A visit here is sure to spark the imagination of young and old alike.
