Always bring valid identification
Valid identification must be carried by all travelers. The name shown on the identification must match the name on your ticket. This applies to both domestic and international travel.
Valid identification must be carried by all travelers. The name shown on the identification must match the name on your ticket. This applies to both domestic and international travel.
Travelers are themselves responsible for obtaining the necessary travel documents. Missing travel documents and/or identification papers are considered a no-show, and the ticket price will therefore not be refunded.
You yourself are responsible for expenses incurred for the return journey or for the journey to another country if an entry permit is not granted in the destination country, for example due to missing travel documents and/or identification papers.
What is considered valid identification when crossing the border depends on your nationality and your destination country.
If you are unsure about the entry rules, you yourself must contact the relevant authorities in the destination country. The following links may also be of help:
For entry into Norway: The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration
For entry into Denmark: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark
Vehicles must display the international vehicle registration code. An international insurance certificate should also be carried.
Note! When entering Norway, strict entry rules and comprehensive ID checks apply:
Nordic citizens (NO, SE, DK, IS and FIN)
Passengers over 18 and children travelling without a parent must bring a valid photo ID. Passport, physical driving licence (digital driving licences on apps or temporary driving licences are not accepted when crossing the border), national ID card and bank card with photo are considered valid identification for Nordic citizens.
Nordic children travelling with their parents do not need to bring their own identification.
Schengen citizens
Passengers from the EU/EEA or Schengen must bring either a national ID card or a passport.
This also applies to children under 18 sailing with a parent.
Non-Schengen citizens
Passengers from countries outside Schengen or the Nordic region must bring a passport and – where applicable – a visa for entry into Norway. This also applies to children under 18 sailing with a parent.
